Welcome to our second Employee Spotlight, where we highlight the incredible people who make Aerison a great place to work! This month, we’re featuring Jamie Janicki, our General Manager of HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality). 

Since joining Aerison in 2021, Jamie has played a pivotal role in embedding HSSEQ into every aspect of our operations. His leadership has helped drive continuous improvement, ensuring a safer, more secure, and high-quality work environment for our employees and stakeholders.

About the Role

Question:

Can you tell us about your role as General Manager HSSEQ and what it entails? 

Answer:

Responsible for leading HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality) as General Manager, I oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems that safeguard our employees, protect the environment, and uphold the highest quality standards. Ultimately, my role is to ensure that HSSEQ is integrated into every aspect of the business, making it a cornerstone of the company’s operations, and continuously driving improvement in these areas for the benefit of employees, stakeholders, and the environment. 

Career Journey

Question:

What has been a significant milestone or achievement in your role as HSSEQ General Manager? 

Answer:

I joined Aerison in 2021, stepping into a team and systems that were already somewhat established, ensuring compliance with standard ISO requirements and operational readiness onsite. However, one key area that needed improvement was the lack of structured processes for implementing these standards – particularly from the tender phase through to site execution. I have been fortunate to work with an exceptional team who have been instrumental in developing and refining our Critical Risk Management process. 

Together, we achieved accreditation with the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner and maintained certifications in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, AS/NZS ISO 3834-2 – Quality Requirements for Fusion Welding EN 15085-2 CL1 – Welding of Railway Vehicles and Components. 

More notably, through our hard work, collaboration, and continuous improvement efforts, we have proudly maintained an LTIFR of zero for over five million hours. 

Across various projects, Iʼve witnessed many people come and go, but one thing remains constant – our supervisory, management, and blue-collar workforce share an unwavering commitment to safety and excellence.

Answer:

HSSEQ is a dynamic field that combines technical expertise with strong relationship-building skills. Ask questions, seek mentorship, and engage with colleagues who can share their knowledge. At Aerison, thereʼs a supportive, collaborative culture, so take advantage of growth opportunities. Be proactive in expanding your skills and exploring new projects. Most importantly, take ownership of your career, stay motivated, and always seek ways to improve and make a difference.
